THE TRUTH,... ALL THE TRUTH,...ONLY THE TRUTH...
Dear friends and family...you probably know that I am studying in Central St Martins College of Art & Design in London, where I am completing at the moment a third year in Graphic Design. I moved in London in 2003 and totaly fell beneath the spell of this creative and exciting place.
Within the context of my final year dissertation, I am interested in the interaction between human beings and how Art & Design are progressively transforming our consumerist and passive society into a more “relational” one where the person can “interact” or engage in dialogue thanks to technological discoveries, among others.
In this purpose, I decided to involve people in one of my piece of work by inviting them to a celebration that took place last sunday, the 9th of October, at the Speakers Corner in Hyde Park, from 12pm to 3pm : MY WEDDING
Few days ago, I informed you, but also unknown people (passers-by, neighbours,..) about this marriage with a mysterious person, and spread the news through internet (http://www.wantomarryou.blogspot.com), mails, and leaflets in the street.
Last Sunday, I actually got married according to my own rules (with customised wedding certificates and rings) to ALL THE PERSONS (52 in total !!!) whatever their age, physique, sexual tendency, or fortune, and who agreed to tell me in exchange a story about their own wedding or love experience.
Through this project I aimed at building a dialogue with the public by offering the individual a narrative for him to experience it with the group but also to incite him to create his own one.
I wanted to see passive and voyeurist spectators transforming themselves into story tellers and active protagonists of THEIR 21st century.
###
In few days, you will be able to watch this wedding through internet. I will post on this blog, all the pictures of my courageous husbands who accepted to play the game.
###
I would also like to apologize in front of all the friends and family members who truly believed in this announcement and who could feel for this reason a little bit offensed or betrayed by me today, which was not the purpose of this performance at all.
I sincerely appreciated your interest (negative or positive) in this ceremony, which was a wonderful demonstration of your love and friendship towards me.
This "lie" (even if I don't like to call this a lie, since I actually got married !), was part of the "storytelling" which YOU were the main protagonists and even authors of : indeed I didn't expect such an enthusiasm in a wedding I thought you wouldn't believe in at all. As a result my dissertation changed according to YOUR response, and that's the most interesting part of the project.
At the end, the interaction between the public and my piece of work worked perfectly. And I truly wanted to thank you for this!
###
This project is just the beginning of a long story I hope you will go on writting with me by way of an interaction through our commun book : this blog.
Please leave your comments, shout, express your disppointement, your anger, your agreement, or disagreement... I want to hear from you and your opinion about the whole project.
Your friend, your daughter,....your wife and your storyteller.

hey laetitia!
either way, whether good or bad...you managed to hold up quite an event by the sounds of things (i didn't make it as i really was at work in the end!) so i am impressed and your dissertation, which i am sure you will work on even after uni, will be a dynamic piece! I'm probably sounding like some old teacher now, but that's not always a bad thing: look at Yoda!
hope you had a good summer!
Dear Laetitia,
I beg your pardon if I did not show up at Speaker's Corner in London last Sunday to marry you but I got stuck in Italy since I had to urgently return to Milan for irrevocable "business" reasons.
Nonetheless, I would love to be one of your husbands anyhow (I'll make a good one, I promise ;-) ).
So I guess I must become a storyteller, too...
Well, there is not much to say about me and my "experience": Just one sentence, actually two.
Been with a girl, a colleague at university, for almost three years sharing more or less the same interests: I must admit that your fellow countryman writer Frédéric Beigbeder was right in titling a book "L'amour dure trois ans"! As for now, still looking for love (but, I guess, I'm not the only one around).
One last thing: from what I can recall you look much better now than when you used to catwalk in défilés at age 18. I'm serious.
And, of course, congratulations once again for your weddingS!
Bisous
Pretty interesting..
Dear Laetitia,
Thank you for your email. No, no, no - I was not disappointed or angry in any way! I knew from all the hilarious details on the website that it must be an Art Event (although I wouldn't have been in the least surprised if you were also going to marry the love of your life as part of the event...) but I thought I should play along and write a proper reply and above all Wear A Hat.
I thought it was a lovely event, with very nice reactions from spectator-participants. What beautiful weather you had for it too.
I am writing very quickly as I am trying to throw some clothes in a rucksack and get ready to leave for Texas on Monday morning (and I am completely disorganised and trying to finish lots of jobs before I go) for two weeks of lazing about with a friend and her young son.
It was lovely to see you again and to be part of such a great day. How about a honeymoon cup of tea sometime in November? I'd love to hear about your
Canadian experiences.
I hope all your husbands are treating you well,
with love,
Hello Eleanor,
I hope you and your children are well and that you had (are having ??) a good rest in Texas!! Lucky you!
I would be very happy to meet one of my favourite husbands-wifes for a cup of tea, whenever you are free.
Tell me what would suit you the best.
Did you see our picture on internet with your red coat and my white dress ????....a perfect mix for a perfect wedding!!!!!
take care
laetitia
Hi lesdixch s,
My excitement grows as I read more of what you have here...
I'm a little embarrassed to say it but when was out looking for french kissing information I found your post: this post and had to stop for a read. I sicerely appreciate you blog topic... I'm considering making a blog about french kissing and I should probably stop by here more often to watch how you do this great job.. I always love looking through other poeples blogs and reading the posts (especially yours!) I don't know if you like other blogs or want to check out mine, but I think you've done a quality job.
It's great to be here on your blog, thanks.
Hi there lesdixch s,
Just to give you a heads up, you're probably going to get some more comments on this post: this post. I found you when I was out looking for the latest info about making out products, and even though this doesn't relate to making out, I still had to stop and tell you that you're doing a great job. You're about to get some visits from my brother and sister. I told them about your blog so I hope you don't mind.
lesdixch s, I am truly impressed and glad I found your blog. I'm in Alaska right now of all places, and I was lucky enough to find an internet connection on this horrifying trip to see the grandparents. Landing on your blog was just what I needed. It warmed me up with it's curious topic, helped me escape the family madness, and gave me some great ideas for my french kissing technique website. If you have time I could use some tips from a pro on my french kissing technique site, but no pressure.
Thanks for the relief... :)
